Lauryl glucoside is a natural surfactant derived from renewable plant-based sources, typically coconut or palm kernel oil and glucose (sugar). It is known for its mildness and biodegradability, making it a suitable ingredient for natural and eco-friendly liquid soap formulations. Here’s a basic recipe for making natural liquid soap using lauryl glucoside:

Ingredients:

  1. Distilled Water – 900ml
  2. Lauryl Glucoside – 150g
  3. Castile Soap Base (Liquid Castile Soap) – 150g
  4. Vegetable Glycerin – 30g
  5. Essential Oils (optional) – For fragrance (e.g., lavender, tea tree, or your preferred scent)

Equipment:

  1. Heat-resistant glass or stainless steel container
  2. Mixing utensil (preferably stainless steel)
  3. Funnel
  4. Empty liquid soap dispenser bottles or containers

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Ensure that your workspace is clean and well-ventilated. Wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves and protective eyewear.
  2. Measure Ingredients: Measure the distilled water, lauryl glucoside, castile soap base, and vegetable glycerin according to the quantities mentioned in the ingredients list.
  3. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a heat-resistant container, pour the distilled water.
    • Gradually add the lauryl glucoside to the water while stirring gently. Continue stirring until the lauryl glucoside is fully dissolved in the water.
    • Add the castile soap base to the mixture and stir until it’s well combined. The castile soap base will contribute to the soap’s cleansing properties.
    • If you wish to add fragrance, essential oils can be added at this stage. Start with a few drops and adjust to your preferred level of scent.
  4. Add Glycerin: Incorporate the vegetable glycerin into the mixture and stir until it’s fully blended. Glycerin helps moisturize the skin and adds thickness to the soap.
  5. Heat and Thicken: Place the container on a gentle heat source, such as a double boiler or a microwave with short bursts of heat, to gently warm the mixture. Heat it just enough to help thicken the liquid soap. Stir occasionally to ensure even heating.
  6. Cool and Store: Once the mixture has thickened to your desired consistency (it may take about 30 minutes), remove it from the heat source and let it cool to room temperature.
  7. Transfer to Bottles: Use a funnel to pour the natural liquid soap into empty soap dispenser bottles or containers. Seal the bottles tightly.
  8. Label: Label your homemade liquid soap bottles with the soap’s name and any other relevant information.

Your natural liquid soap is now ready to use. It’s gentle on the skin and can be used for handwashing or as a body wash. Be sure to store it in a cool, dry place, and shake well before each use, as natural liquid soaps may separate over time.
